Altrincham 1-3 Brackley Town Sat 8 April 2017
Saints secure win in the sun
Brackley comfortably extended their unbeaten run to five games at already relegated Altrincham in a game that never hit the heights but saw Saints record a ninth away win of the season in glorious Spring sunshine.
The home side could not turn good opportunities into goals in a lively first half performance. Brackley needed a fine save by Laurie Walker, pawing away Nicky Clee’s shot, and a stunning one-handed reaction save to keep out Damian Reeves after 36 minutes to go in at the break one goal to the good after Steve Diggin had tapped in from Glenn Walker’s low cross to give Saints a 30th minute lead.
Brackley were brighter in the second period going close to extending the lead three times in just the first few minutes after the break with both Diggin and David Moyo going close and keeper Stuart Tomlinson saving with his legs to keep out Moyo.
A delightful chip over Tomlinson by substitute Jordan Hempenstall doubled Brackley’s lead after 78 minutes as Altrincham offered little offensively in a disappointing second half for the home side. Lee Ndlovu and The Robins’ Micah Evans grabbed added time goals to complete the score-line.
Brackley head to Manchester one more time next Saturday before hosting relegation-threatened Gainsborough Trinity at St James Park on Easter Monday.
